Pamukkale: Day Trip or Overnight?

Pamukkale looks like a five-minute stop in photos; in reality it is about a five-hour drive each way from Alanya. So the real question is: do you sacrifice sleep, or a day?
The truth about the day trip
The one-day tour departs between 03:00 and 04:00 — that is what gets you to the travertines before the crowds. You are back around midnight. It is an eighteen-hour day; in words: eighteen.
How long do you actually get there?
After driving and breaks, you usually have 4-5 hours for the terraces and Hierapolis. Enough to walk the white terraces, swim in the antique pool and see the theatre; the only thing you genuinely miss is sunset.
What the overnight adds
Staying a night means walking the terraces in evening light and again on an empty morning — that is the difference for photographers. Splitting the drive across two days also makes it far kinder for families and anyone who hates long hauls.
Hierapolis and the antique pool
Whichever you choose, do not skip Hierapolis: the necropolis, the main street and the huge theatre are at least as impressive as the travertines. The antique (Cleopatra) pool has a separate fee and summer queues — leave slack in your plan.
Which one for whom?
Short holiday, young legs, tolerance for a night drive: day trip. Families, photographers and comfort-seekers: overnight. Undecided? Five minutes on the phone and we will work it out together.
